Questions Boise Seniors and Families Ask About Tech Help
My parent says they're "too old to learn technology." Can you still help?
This is the most common thing we hear, and it isn't accurate. The issue is never intelligence or age. It is always patience and teaching style. Tech stores talk fast, use jargon, and move on. We sit down at your parents' kitchen table, go at their pace, repeat things as many times as needed, and don't leave until they feel confident. We have helped seniors in their 80s and 90s learn to FaceTime their grandkids for the first time. Age is never a barrier.
My mom got a pop-up saying her computer is infected and to call a number immediately. What should she do?
Do not call that number. This is one of the most common tech scams targeting seniors in Idaho right now. It is a fake alert designed to make her panic and hand over access to her device or her credit card. Tell her to close the browser, or hold the power button if the screen seems locked. Then call us. We will walk her through it and check the device for any real issues. This exact scenario is what our Scam Protection Audit is designed to prevent.
Can you help my parents recover photos they think they deleted?
Very often, yes. Deleted photos on iPhones and iPads go to a "Recently Deleted" folder and stay there for 30 days before permanent deletion. Photos backed up to iCloud can also be recovered. We have helped many Boise seniors recover years of family photos they thought were gone forever. Call us before assuming they are lost; the sooner we look, the better.
My dad has the same password for everything and writes it on sticky notes. Is that a real security risk?
Yes, and it is one of the most common vulnerabilities we find. Reusing passwords means one breach exposes everything. We set up a simple password manager that stores everything securely behind one master password he can actually remember. No more sticky notes. No more getting locked out. One session solves this permanently.
Can you help set up a new iPhone and transfer everything from the old one?
Yes, this is one of our most requested sessions in Boise. We transfer contacts, photos, apps, text history, and settings from the old phone to the new one, set up Face ID, connect to WiFi, configure voicemail, and do a full walkthrough so your parent knows how to use the new device confidently before we leave.
My parent keeps getting calls from people claiming to be from Medicare or Social Security. What is going on?
These are impersonation scams, and they are extremely common in Idaho. The callers claim there is a problem with benefits, ask for a Social Security number or bank information, and sometimes threaten arrest. Medicare and Social Security will never call unexpectedly and ask for personal information. We cover exactly this type of scam in every tech session and in our dedicated Scam Protection Audit. We also set up call blocking tools to reduce the frequency of these calls reaching your parent.
How long does a typical tech session last?
Most sessions run about one hour. For a new device setup or a more complex situation, it may run slightly longer. We do not rush, and we do not charge extra if a session runs over by a few minutes. The goal is for your parent to feel genuinely comfortable before we leave, not for us to hit a time limit and walk out.
Can my parent call you after the session if they forget something?
Yes. Quick follow-up questions by phone or text are included. We do not charge extra for a 5-minute call to clarify something from a recent session. Clients on monthly plans have ongoing access to phone and text support throughout the month. We want the learning to stick, and that sometimes means answering the same question twice. That is completely fine with us.
